Hola! You are wellcome

Green wall. 240x210 cm. Mural drawing and artist's book. Marker pens on paper. Amsterdam 2020

oliasstudio.eth establishes a hub between the physical world of the artist's studio and the decentralised, autonomous and modular web3. Mounted on the IPFS network, this web page shows the creative activity, painting, drawing and digital artwork of Manuel Olías.

Together with this personal project oliasstudio also shows collective activities aimed at participating and favouring the communities of a decentralised world. TAG Lab & The Augmented Gallery is in this sense a commitment to the expanded spatial web as a place to build archives and exhibit fresh art that is more autonomous, less dependent on intermediaries and institutions.

Bio·graphy

Olías
work is mainly in the field of drawing and painting. Between 2000 and 2012 he was based in Madrid from where he developed projects in Vancouver, San Francisco and New York. He has been a regular on the Madrid cultural scene since he co-founded the Manklared Arts Collective in 2002. He has developed a recognisable and personal style through extensive series of drawings that, from a simple drawing, play in conceptual and critical territories. The tone that predominates in his drawings, and also in his paintings and videos, is expectant and reflective. They combine features of classical drawing and the incorporation of contemporary graphics, such as the assimilation of vignettes and illustrations. He is influenced by procedures of spontaneous expression, action-painting or graffiti, but explores these in a slow-paced variant.

He has been working from the city of Valencia since 2012. His recent exhibitions include 'Alumbramientos, redibujo y fata morgana' held in 2019 at the ColorElefante gallery in the Russafa neighbourhood, working on the concept of the artist's book and developing the idea of drawing-mural. He is currently showing his work at Stichting la Jetée/ Foundation Jetty in Amsterdam, and in his studio in Valencia.

Olías considers himself a "tracer" rather than a draughtsman, but that's just as well. He appropriates images from the collective imaginary, a characteristic of the liquid and post-modern times in which we have been given to live, to make them his own.

TAG Lab & The Augmented Gallery

Tag Lab & The Augmented Gallery is a project by oliasstudio. It aims to constitute a multi-chain virtual art gallery. An administrative DAO at client.aragon.org, and an executive one where part of the NFTs are minted in the Iota Tangle, and experimentally in Shimmer, its test network, through EVM with the future extended ecosystem of interoperable metaverse access. The oliasstudio operates through Soonaverse and OpenSea, along with other platforms and other blockchains, for the registration and marketing of its NFTs.

The Augmented Gallery is in the metaverse of OVER immersed in Augmented Reality. AR with access from the subdomain theaugmented.over.eth where we have created a portal-scene that communicates with a ring of experimental art galleries distributed in various cities around the world. In these galleries we give space to exhibitions of digital work as well as to extended art proposals and portfolios in 3D environment for artists, both digital natives and those who develop their work with traditional media and techniques.

    F.A.Q

A frequently asked questions list for oliasstudio. Some answers to common questions. If you can't find the answer you are looking for here, please contact the studio.

    01 Why this approach?

    IPFS as an artistic Manifesto

To solve some of the problems of independent art practices that are common to the emerging world of the technological and cultural avant-garde.

    02 Point of view

    About Verifiability

IPFS uses cryptographic hashes to verify the authenticity and integrity of files, making it difficult for malicious actors to tamper with or delete files.

    03 Resilience

    No point of failure

IPFS users do not need to trust each other. In other words, the failure of a single or even multiple nodes in the network does not affect the functioning of the entire network, and an IPFS node can fetch data from the network as long as at least one other node in the network has that data, regardless of its location.

    04 Centralization? Where?

IPFS is an open, distributed and participatory network

That reduces data silos from centralized servers, making IPFS more resilient than traditional systems. No single entity or person controls, manages or owns IPFS; rather, it is a community-maintained project with multiple implementations of the protocol, multiple tools and apps leveraging that protocol, and multiple users and organizations contributing to it's design and development.

04.1 Art is an open network

    A distributed and participatory network.

    05 Data sovereignty

    Protects data sovereignty

IPFS enabling users to store and access data directly on a decentralized network of nodes, rather than centralized, third-party servers. This eliminates the need for intermediaries to control and manage data, giving users full control and ownership over their data.

    06 Off-chain storage

IPFS enables verifiable off-chain storage by creating a link between blockchain state and content-addressed published to IPFS. This works by storing a Content IDentifier (CID) (explained in How IPFS works) in a smart contract.

    07 Vendor lock-in

    IPFS prevents vendor lock-in

IPFS prevents vendor lock-in , as users have sovereignty over their data and infrastructure. This is enabled by content-addressing, which decouples the data from a single location or infrastructure provider. Unlike traditional cloud vendors, IPFS enables you to change data storage locations without changing things like APIs and data management. In addition, because IPFS is open-source, community-maintained and modular, users are not obligated to use a particular subsystem (described in How IPFS works). Instead, users can customize IPFS for their preferred technologies, needs and values.
